Confluence is extremely unique as a concept. I had never witnessed the merger of Sitar with Guitar. Even as a novice I could feel the passion with which the musicians played. The idea of such collaborations is not only innovative but also beneficial for all forms of music.

The 23rd Feb, 2014 proved to be an enchanting confluence not just of music but also of cultures, that of India and Hungary. The maestros on the Sitar, Shubhendra Rao, on the Tabla, Durjay Bhaumik, and on the guitar, Marton Suto gave an enthralling performance with a spontaneity that marked the evening with a heart rendering experience. Especially so when Vikram disclosed the short span of time within which this performance was created. The meanderings of meanderings of the Rege and Ragas, the interflow of Indian classical and the Hungarian folk music was an interlude that kept the audience yearning for more.

Congratulations for having organised Confluence. It was immensely enjoyable both for the quality of the performance and the immediacy of the experience.

Confluence is a collaboration between the Hungarian Information and Cultural Centre and Society for Art Appreciation and Research, to create a platform where musical traditions of Hungary and India can be merged. The project would create opportunities for Hungarian and Indian musicians to meet, interact and explore new vistas of music. The first event, as part of this series, was held at the Balassi Institute, New Delhi. Curated by SAAR, the event aptly called Confluence, explored the combination of Sitar with Guitar. Some of the musical ideas that were brought forward were Hungarian Folk music, Rege, with Indian classical compositions, Ragas, set to complex rhythm of the Tabla. Distinguished Sitar maestro, Subhendra Rao and leading Tabla player Durjay Bhaumik played along with widely acclaimed Hungarian Jazz guitarist Marton Suto.
