The course consisted of classical, folk, devotional and film music introducing their evolution and development over time. The students were also made familiar with the theory of music including specific terminology and elements of style. The lectures were supported by both live and recorded music. The class was encouraged to participate in discussions on Classical music, Thumris, Dadras, Qawwalis and folk styles from different regions of India as well as music from Indian films.
