Rajasthani Folk Music

July 27, 2012 | New Delhi

This exuberant performance of Rajasthani folk music conveyed how its cultural landscape reflects the contrasts and extremes of the natural environment. The songs explored themes of cyclical and seasonal change and were rendered in a combination of classical based ragas as well as those unique to the region. The profundity, richness and drama of the music was vividly captured by the artists who come from three generations of a traditional Manganiyar bardic community originally under the patronage of the Jaisalmer court.
